There is a Rowing certification in Hamilton, Ontario on Saturday Nov 14th. It looks to be a little less than a 3 hour drive from Fairport. I've decided to register. If anyone is interested and wants to car-pool let me know. I'm planning on driving out there early in the morning (leave around 5:00) and returning after the cert... should be home by 8:00pm.

I forgot to mention in my original post that this cert costs $395. They don't provide any meals either, so that will be an additional cost.
There are no prerequisites for the class, other than having done CrossFit. They will ask for your training background on the on-line registration forms.
There don't seem to be too many certs that happen within this short a drive from Rochester. Also this is a one-day cert class, so there is no costs for hotels or anything like that, so this seems like a great opportunity.
Oh, you will need a passport or enhanced driver's license to get across the border and back...
